Harrow Bereavement Care

Welcome

When someone close dies the world can seem a lonely and empty place.  At times like this it helps to talk things over with someone who will listen without judging or telling you what to do.

At Harrow Bereavement Care our team of trained volunteers are here to  support adults and children in the London Borough of Harrow and surrounding areas who have been affected by a death regardless of when the death occurred.  The service is entirely free and confidential.  For details click What we offer.

Harrow Bereavement Care is a well established registered charity. It is also well respected by healthcare professionals, teachers, community leaders and family support workers throughout the community.

Fish & Chips Supper / Quiz Night - Saturday 14th January 2012

HBC held its first Quiz as a fund raising event on the evening of Saturday 14th January 2012.  Over 140 people attended and it was a great success.  Fish and Chips were served with accompanying drinks, followed in the interval by cake and coffee.
There were 8 rounds of questions as well as "dingbats" questions on the table.  Tables of 8 contended, the winners being the STANMORE table (all teams had different names from places within the Borough of Harrow - Kenton, Rayners Lane, Edgware etc).  There was sharp competition however and some other tables were only just behind.  A very bright crowd altogether!

The evening ended with a raffle, prizes kindly donated by local shops and individuals.  Our thanks to all who provided them.

In all, just under £2000 was raised in aid of the charity.  Bobbi Riesel and a team of volunteers had worked hard in getting everything organised.  Val did table decorations and everyone enjoyed the evening, helpers and quiz participants alike.  Our one hitch was a lack of heating right at the beginning in the Victoria Hall, Harrow where the quiz was held - the manager however kindly drove from Uxbridge to fix it - when the heating came on, everyone could take off their coats and start really enjoying what the evening had to offer.

Chairman Jack Lynes wants to thank everyone involved in what all agree was a really wonderful evening.  As well as raising such a good sum of money, we also were able to make HBC known to many who did not even know we existed.  And, what is more, a good time was had by all.  But we must not rest on our laurels and must use this as a springboard.  There are 365 days in the year and every day HBC has to be ready to serve the community.  We can only do this if we have the resourses, human and financial, and our team of dedicated volunteers; be they visitors, management, trustees, trainers, fund raisers, or supporters, are making sure that HBC will continue within and around Harrow to serve the community with expert care in sad and often difficult circumstances.
